ADVICE FOR A SAFE AND SUCCESSFUL DISPLAY

For purchasers of our DIY display packs.

It is important to plan well ahead. You should familiarise yourself with the fireworks in advance never for the first time on the night. For smaller private parties and functions, to which the general public are not admitted, a minimum safety distance of 25 metres is required. Read the instructions carefully on each firework.

For larger public displays -

You will need

An area suitable to hold the display
  • Where the public can be prevented from having access to the fireworks
  • Where the spectator viewing area is at least 25 metres from the fireworks
  • Where there are no overhead obstructions (eg overhanging branches, power lines etc)
  • Where a clear ‘fall-out’ area is available for rocket sticks to fall

Rockets and Mines should be placed towards the rear of the firing area

Roman Candles and Multishot Batteries can be located in the central region

Fountains and Set-Pieces can be placed near the front of the firing area

You may need

Help to set up and fire larger displays. If several people are involved, ensure that everyone is aware of what they have to do. Protective clothing should be worn.

Provision for crowd control if you are holding a public display

To notify certain people or authorities, which may include
The local police
The fire brigade
The local authority (eg environmental health)
The coast guard (if the display is near to the sea)
The airport authority (if the display is near an airport flight path)

Local hospitals, old people’s homes, farms, stables etc.

To arrange first aid cover
To arrange stewarding during and after the display, both for crowd control and to ensure that members of the public do not have access to the fireworks
Insurance cover

To carry out a risk assessment
